A WOMAN’S ROLE IN OUR SOCIETY AND JIVANVIDYA

A WOMAN’S ROLE IN OUR SOCIETY AND JIVANVIDYA

Women have a great role to play in the society। Even if she is a house-wife who is staying at home, she has lot of work to do। Very often her work is not appreciated by others only because she does not bring money in the house। But even if you speculate this with that point of view you would understand worth of her work if you observe it carefully। She plans and organizes budget of the house। She decides whose needs are more important and accordingly spends and allots the money। She does most of the shopping for the house। She takes care of the house and all the members of the family as well as guests and relatives। She helps in studies of her children। She nurses if anybody falls sick। She gives mental support when any member of the family is depressed due to any problem। She offers her valuable suggestions and advices in the situation of crisis। She is “The Anchor” of the house which is not obviously seen but without her there is no stability to the building of the family। She is the moral foundation of the house on which building of happy family life is built। If the moral values of members of the family are not proper no family member can experience peace of mind and true happiness in their lives. She is the one who always tries to see that everyone behaves properly inside as well as outside the house. She is always ready to sacrifice and compromise, therefore it creates an environment where all members of family are ready to care and share. But if she is demanding, aggressive, not tactful and non-compromising who lacks wisdom; she creates an atmosphere where everybody feels suffocating. It is an unhealthy environment where there is no peace and harmony. Many times women do some kind of side business especially when financial critical situation comes. Women are natural fighters who can manage stressful situation in a better way than most men. If you try and calculate working hours of both *****es, one finds women are working for more period of time, lot more than men. In rural areas women have to do all strenuous jobs in fields as well as at home. They also take care of the cattle and have to bring water from very far distance. In urban areas, many women are working because there the cost of living is very high and large amount of money needs to be spent on housing, education and medical aids. So most women are working and secondly they wish to make use of their knowledge to earn more amount of money and to live in better life style. They are doing work in offices and organizations and also at home. This dual responsibility is extremely tiring physically as well as mentally. In spite of all this it is very sad that women’s work remains unnoticed and they are not given due credit and respect which they deserve because in our society women’s hard work is always taken for granted. Lot of social awareness needs to be done regarding this. Fortunately Jivan vidya recognizes and well acclaims the role of women in the society. It demands and insists on fair treatment to women. She is called as home minister, health minister, secretary, education minister and planning minister for the various roles she plays for her family by our beloved Satguru. Hence, women have great role to play and their position and value should never be underestimated. But unfortunately in our society there are many men who feel proud to insult and treat woman in most humiliating manner. These men consider women as their slaves and a physical object who can satisfy their needs and feel women are not intelligent enough so their opinions should not be valued upon. They do not understand that if one half of the society is neglected or ill-treated then it is possible for the society to have all round progress. Secondly, future of the society i.e. children- lies in the hands of women and if women are ignored then ultimately future of country is at stake. And in such situation it is not possible to have proper material and psycho-spiritual growth of society. It is observed that many of such men who were ill treating their wives have realised their mistakes after becoming Satguru’s disciple and adopting Jivanvidya in their life and have started treating their better halves with great respect now. Another point is, many times we find that many women torture and treat other women in disgusting manner. Mother-in-laws and sister-in-laws treat a newly wed bride in such a way that her life is worse than hell. Many brides are still burnt for want of dowry and money. Many a times these women ill-treat, taunt and torture newly wed bride physically and mentally. All such people are ignorant about the laws of nature and hence do not realise that by committing such heinous crimes they are inviting bad destiny and sorrows, agony and pain in their future life as per universal law of action and reaction. When swami Vivekananda went to England and U.S.A.; he was asked why women are treated so inferiorly in India and whether he approved of their plight and condition and what he would do in order to improve their condition and status in the society. He answered that, he does not believe in discrimination between men and women. Further he said that when women in India will understand and realise about the immense potential inherent in them, they themselves will voice against injustice. They will prosper in all fields and they will resist and compel society to alter their outlook and behavior towards them. He said if you tell a slave that you are a human being and got all the moral right to be treated like one; his self-esteem would get awakened and he would fight for his rights one day and then no more he would remain a slave. It is very essential that women should understand the gifts which they have received from the nature. Women are generally more kind, understanding, and patient, compassionate and caring. God also considered them to be special and hence he has given his task of procreation of newborn and taking care of infant. Hence they should not consider themselves as somebody who is inferior to males and should feel nice and confident to be a woman and should not try to blindly imitate men because they are special in their own ways. Women should utilize their special qualities to progress spiritually. Their negative points like jealousy; indulging in gossips, taunting and criticism etc. they should try to overcome and should have broader view to look at the world rather than thinking only about their selves and their family. Our Satguru always tells us that if we try to make only our life happy then we would be very selfish and it is unlike the desire of nature who wants everybody to be happy. And also this is not the proper way to live life as attempting in this manner is a very lengthy process to be happy but if we try to make other’s life happy it is a shortcut to make our life happy. Secondly, whatever we give to others comes back to us in multifold and magnified proportion. Hence we should engage ourselves in wishing good, enchanting universal prayer relentlessly rather thinking negatively about ourselves and others and this is the shortcut and the royal path to become happy as advised by our Gurudev Satguru Shri. Wamanrao Pai. Hence let us follow this path to make our lives happy and fruitful. We can enchant universal prayer while doing our work and also whenever we get free time. Satguru says that we should enchant this universal prayer for half an hour before going to bed and then till we get sleep. Just before getting sleep, our conscious mind is closed but our sub-conscious is half-way open and hence enchanting prayer would cause entering of all auspicious thoughts of universal prayer into our sub-conscious mind and this would benefit us in many folds. Hence praying just before sleeping is a very good practice and all of us should resort to it. Women should come out of the inferiority complex of being women. Women’s or man’s future lies in his or her actions only and if women engage themselves in doing all auspicious actions it would help them personally, it would help family as well as it would cause psycho- spiritual and material progress of society as whole. Jay Sadguru Jay Jivanvidya
